Basic information
Background information on your project and your company.
Beacon
The FedEx Office logo features a beacon. It’s a bright, powerful brand icon — with each color symbolizing the many strengths of FedEx. FedEx Orange for time-definite global express shipping services. FedEx Green for day-definite ground shipping services. FedEx Blue for retail business service centers. And at the heart of the beacon, where the colors converge, is FedEx Purple — representing the "can do" spirit shared by all FedEx companies.
Bitmap image
A file type used as the standard image storage format in Microsoft®
Windows®. Identified by the extension .bmp.
Bleed
The portion of a printed image that extends beyond the trim edge of a page.
Brand identity
The set of characteristics (including graphic elements) by which a company or brand is definitely recognizable or known. Refers to any use of the FedEx name or image. |
Camera-ready art
Art that is ready for photography.
Clear space
The area on a page that is free of graphics and text.
Compression
A software process that reduces the size of a file (e.g., an image) for more efficient storage or transfer.
Copy
Any text that is set in type. Refers to phrases and sentences that describe FedEx companies or services. |
Dots per inch (DPI)
Measures the resolution of a screen or printed page.
Duotone
A two-color halftone that is reproduced from a one-color photograph. |

EPS
Refers to Encapsulated PostScript®, a file format for graphics and
text. Identified by the extension .eps. |
Font
A complete set of type characters of the same cut and weight, such as Univers 65 Bold. Includes uppercase and lowercase letters, numerals, and punctuation marks.
FTP
Refers to File Transfer Protocol, a graphics compression format used to exchange files between computers on the Internet.

GIF
Refers to Graphic Interchange Format, a graphics compression format used to transfer images on the Internet. Identified by the extension .gif. |
High-resolution photography
Any photography that is suitable for lithographic printing. Usually 300 pixels per inch or higher. |

JPEG
Refers to Joint Photographic Experts Group, the industry committee that developed the JPEG compression standard for color images. Identified by the extension .jpg. |
Kerning
The adjustment of space between adjacent type characters to make them appear evenly spaced.
Kind of project
Refers to the context in which you wish to use the FedEx brand resources, such as film, merchandise, digital, print material, publishing, sponsorships, or endorsements. |
Layout
The overall design of a proposed printed piece.
Leading
The amount of space between typeset lines. Measurements are expressed in points. Leading is measured from baseline to baseline.
Legal permission line
The statement “FedEx service marks used by permission.”
Logo
A name and/or symbol designed for easy and definite recognition of a company or product.
Low-resolution photography
Any photography that is used primarily for Web graphics or for placement only. Not suitable for lithographic printing. |
Margins
The blank space that borders the written or printed area on a page.
Match Colors
Match colors (also called spot colors) are special mix inks that create
solid areas of color when printed at 100% coverage. FedEx Match Colors
are specialized inks formulated for accurate logo color representation.

PDF
Refers to Portable Document File, the format that allows for viewing of files across various computer platforms regardless of the fonts or software programs used to create the original.
Point
The smallest unit of measure in typography used to designate type size and leading specifications.
Process color
Process color uses the four industry-standard, transparent colors: cyan,
magenta, yellow, and black (CMYK). When screened in specified percentages
and overlapped, these colors can combine to create an equivalent of
the logo color.

RGB
Refers to red, green, blue, the subtractive colors used for true color
representation on a monitor display. |

Sans serif typeface
A typeface without serifs that is even in overall weight, with almost
equal thickness of vertical and horizontal strokes (e.g., Univers®).
Serif typeface
A typeface with finishing strokes at the top and bottom of a letter,
with obvious contrast in thickness between vertical and horizontal strokes
(e.g., ITC Century® Condensed).
Slow connection
Refers to a low-speed Internet connection (e.g., dial up service). |
TIFF
Refers to Tagged Image File Format, a common bitmap file format. Identified by the extension .tif.
Typeface
The entire family of fonts, including roman, italic, medium, bold, and black, unified by consistent visual properties. |

Zip
A compressed storage file that is easier to transport and copy. Identified by the extension .zip. |
